Tsunami Appeal Kickathon

January 2005
All SGKA Dojo's

Many people around the world will never forget the 26th of December 2004. Just before 1am the worlds largest recorded earthquake since 1964 struck in the Indian Ocean. This caused one of the worlds most deadly tsunami's to hit the asian and african coast line with waves of over 100ft destroying everything in its path. It has been estimated that the tsunami has caused the deaths of over 300,000 people and destroyed the lives of millions.

In Early January we leaned that one of our affiliated dojo's in Sri Lanka had been destroyed and we had a request from Sensei Premakumara (Chief Instructor of Sri Lanka) asking for assistance from all the IOGKF members to help rebuild the lives of those affected. The leaders of the SGKA rallied round and decided that we would hold a sponsored Kickathon to raise as much money as we could for the appeal, and we are overjoyed to announce that we have raised a fenominal amount of money for such a small group.

We would just like to take this opportunity to thank all of the students that took part, and more importantly their sponsors for their contributions.

The Current running total raised by the SGKA students so far is £2176.50

A special mention goes to the following students as each of them raised over £100 individually:

Kyle Trolland
Warren Hargrieves
Robbie Heggie
Rebecca Heatherill
Dylyn McKeown
Cameron Korad

Once again, thanks to all those who took part.
